Your Child's New
Best Friend in Health Care On October 29, 1997, Governor John G. Rowland signed historic legislation supported by every member of the General Assembly. With the HUSKY law, Connecticut made a strong commitment to the health of our young people. The HUSKY Plan is designed to help all children who dont have health insurance. It includes services under the traditional Medicaid program (now known as HUSKY Part A). It also provides brand-new health services for children in higher-income families (called HUSKY Part B). There’s also HUSKY Plus--a new coverage option for children who have intensive physical needs. HUSKY members can receive mental health and substance abuse services by contacting the Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership toll free at 1-877-552-8247; TTY/TDD 1-866-218-0525. They also have a website at www.ctbhp.com . HUSKY gives a special boost to Connecticuts working families. Many parents dont have health coverage for children through work. With HUSKY, your children are covered. Even families with high incomes can get most HUSKY services at a group rate. Simply put, HUSKY means quality health care for every child in Connecticut. HUSKY is funded by the state and federal governments, and administered by the Department of Social Services. Our Frequently Asked Questions page and an article in the newsletter "All Children Considered," give a good overview of the HUSKY Plan.
